“With Care and Affection”

My mother trained to be a teacher at a time when married women usually didn’t work outside the home, especially if they had children.  In addition to public school, I benefited from a lot of home-schooling from an excellent teacher who had no other teaching outlet– plus, she loved me.

My mother continues to inspire many of the things I care about today.  Sometimes she is with me in small but spiritual ways, such as during the Women’s March.  Sometimes I have a sense of her when I read a book or hear music that I know she would love.

“To mother” is “to bring up with care and affection.”

Let us come together on May 12th and share some of those times when we are reminded of someone– no matter their gender or biological relationship to us– who nurtured us with their care and affection and thus nourished us spiritually.
